American Eagle to exit UK, dedicated website expected to follow
US teen fashion retailer American Eagle Outfitters is exiting the UK market less than three years after opening its first of three stores.
The retailer has already closed its store in the Bluewater mall in Kent and ceased trading in the remaining two, in Westfield Shepherds Bush and Westfield Stratford, London. Its dedicated UK e-commerce site is also expected to close.
American Eagle has struggled to gain a foothold in the competitive UK fashion market since it arrived in November 2014, when it targeted opening up to 30 stores and rolled out its Aerie intimates brand.
The retailer, which has around 950 US stores, said UK customers will still be able to shop for its products online.
