Asos to add 60% more staff in next few years, will expand London HQ
Online fashion retail giant Asos is to expand in the next three years with an extra 1,500 being added to the current 2,500 staff at its London HQ. And the company will also spend £40m on renovating the historic building in Camden.
The company said the new posts would be spread across its tech, marketing and retail operations and that the decision to grow was unaffected by Britain’s June vote to leave the EU.
The company, which operates globally, has annual sales of over £1bn ($1.3bn) and CEO Nick Beighton said the plans were formulated before the June 23 vote’s result was known.
Tech-based businesses have proved themselves largely resistant to any post-Brexit vote gloom despite some major companies like big financial institutions mulling a move from the UK or delaying/adjusting investment plans.
“Asos is a mixture of fashion, technology, creative and design capability all in one place. There are very few places where you get that hotspot of those talents in one place so London’s very good for that,” said Beighton.
The Asos HQ is in Greater London House, an art deco building that was also previously home to WGSN. WGSN parent Topright Group moved out in late 2012 as Asos embraced on a previous expansion programme.
