J.Crew Launches Its First-Ever Activewear Line with New Balance
Athleisure is alive and well, and if you weren't a fan before, allow J.Crew to change your mind. The brand just announced a collaboration with New Balance on its first activewear collection debuting October 11, and we guarantee you will want everything.
Ranging from $15 to $200, there are 20 pieces total including sneakers, pants, sports bras, shorts, tanks, long-sleeved tops, and jackets.
"Considering the number of times I hear my designers and friends talking about which gym classes they're taking or not taking–it was a no brainer to reach out to New Balance to collaborate–it's an exciting new opportunity to speak to them in a new and very relevant way," head of women's design Somsack Sikhounmuong tells ELLE.com.
Just as the brand cast non-models for its spring 2017 presentation, J.Crew enlisted four "real" people they're inspired by to model the clothing: Gracie Cavalho (Brazilian model and competitive Muy Thai boxer), Taryn Toomey (founder of The Class), Taye Johnson (celebrity trainer, SoulCycle instructor, and DJ), and Rachael Wang (Allure fashion director and runner).
J.Crew creative director Jenna Lyons said in a very real, relatable statement, "I admit it: I dread the gym, cannot for the life of me figure out how to clip in and out of a spin bike and the thought of ice cream is the only thing that gets me to do any type of physical exercise. But when our friends at New Balance agreed to collaborate with us earlier this year, we jumped."
She continued, "We hope these clothes (along with ice cream) help motivate you to do whatever activity it is you like to do. And if they don't, we still think they look great sitting on the couch." Noted!
